South Australia: Are you entitled to COVID-19 lockdown relief? (Updated July 21)

Another lockdown has caused more disruption for South Australian businesses and workers. Find out about the state government’s financial relief package.

Applications are expected to open in the next two weeks (from the time of writing) and will close at 11:59pm on 30 September 2021.

The impact of the pandemic on South Australia, and the country at large, is an evolving situation. 

This blog summarises the potential relief options for affected businesses. Please note, while we aim to update this blog to the best of our ability, it is important to speak directly with your accountant and get the latest advice based on your needs. 

Here’s some of the potential options available for South Australian business owners and workers to explore.

One-Off $3,000 Emergency Cash Grant

A $3,000 grant is available to eligible businesses.

To be eligible (as at 12:01am Tuesday 20th July 2021), your business:

– Must be located in South Australia

– Has an annual turnover of $75,000+ in 2020 or 2021

– Must be registered for GST

– Is an employer of people in South Australia

– Has an Australia-wide payroll of less than $10 million in 2020

– Has a valid ABN

– Has experienced a minimum of 30% reduction in turnover during period 20 July – 26 July 2021 due to restricted trading conditions (compared to the previous week)

One-Off $1,000 Emergency Cash Grant

A $1,000 grant is available to eligible businesses.

To be eligible (as at 12:01am Tuesday 20th July 2021), your business:

– Must be located in South Australia

– Has an turnover of $75,000+ in 2020 or 2021

– Must be registered for GST

– Has a valid ABN

– Has experienced a minimum of 30% reduction in turnover during period 20 July – 26 July 2021 due to restricted trading conditions (compared to the previous week)

Regional Workers $600 Income Support Payment

Income support is available to regional workers in South Australia.

To be eligible (as at 12:01am Tuesday 20th July 2021), you must:

– Live or work outside of the Commonwealth-declared ‘Hotspot’ local government areas (and, therefore, not entitled to the Federal Government’s $375 or $600 p/w support payments)

COVID-19 Disaster Payment – To be Determined from 28th July 2021

To be eligible (as at 12:01am Tuesday 20th July 2021), you must be:

– An Australian resident or holder of a visa giving the right to work in Australia

– 17 years or older

– Not getting an income support payment, ABSTUDY Living Allowance, Dad and Partner Pay or Parental Leave Pay

– Not getting Pandemic Leave Disaster Payment, a state or territory pandemic payment or a state small business payment for the same period

– Impacted by loss of income and no appropriate paid leave entitlements

– The liquid assets rule for your event

Workers who have lost between 8 and 20 hours of work during week 20th July – 26th July 2021 may be eligible for $375.

Workers who have lost over 20 hours during week 20th July – 26th July 2021 may be eligible for $600.

Once approved, payments will be paid in arrears for the seven day period.Again, this is an evolving situation. Speak to your accountant and regularly check government websites, such as these pages for businesses and individuals,  for the latest information on grants, payments, eligibility and restrictions.
